About Me:
My hope is that someday, I may create a forum for the arts of bodywork and yoga to work seamlessly together to the benefit of my neighbors. I hope to offer the tools to dive within, to heal from within….to make holistic life choices that work toward our true nature…to find peace in honesty and self-love, so that we can love others with divine grace…embracing our Humanity at it's deepest core.
My first step in that direction is co-founding the Seattle Bodywork Cooperative. Our aim is to provide a community from which healers…bodyworkers, energyworkers, acupuncturists, nutrition therapists…can share their knowledge, skill and compassion with the world. We wanted to create a space that offered these talented folks an affordable space to practice their art, a place where they don't have to kill themselves over-working to make a living at this. I have seen so many spirits broken by the system…capitalism gone terribly awry…and it breaks my heart. At Seattle Bodywork Cooperative, we embrace a model that supports our tenants at the lowest overhead possible so that they can work and live in a healthy, independent way.
My own practice began over 15 years ago…learning about injuries, anatomy and physiology as an athletic trainer. I now offer clinical massage therapy, yoga therapy and private yoga instruction. I offer workshops on the Fundamentals of Yoga, bi-monthly extended practices that focus on alignment, breakdowns and transitions. I also teach advanced courses on Physiology and Anatomy to yoga teachers and trainees.
I believe that the more we know about our bodies, the parts we see and the systems we don't see, the more we can work to hone our self-awareness. That awareness leads to a finer perception of the world around us…eventually helping us all to meet somewhere in the center of Our Being.
It almost sounds like I fancy myself profound…!? Maybe it's all just gibberish, but I like to think even gibberish is worth something in the end!
***a quote from a yogi-teacher whom I respect very much***
shoot for Yoga Journal. On the way to the studio, the taxi driver asked me what I did. I said that i was, among other things, a yoga teacher. In a heavy British accent the driver responded, “I knew a chap in Manchester who did this yoga thing. But you know what? It didn't make him a better person. In fact, the more he did it, the more he became on the outside what he was inside.” I replied that his perception was insightful and accurate indeed. The practice of asana and pranayama strengthens our bodies, our minds, and our wills. It is up to us and the teacher to ensure that the progress is in the direction towards our Spirit, and not our ego!
